What is it?

In 2011 Beyond Profit was delighted to further its role in supporting student innovation and entrepreneurship by launching an international development social innovation incubator: Beyond Profit, Beyond Borders. Responding to student enthusiasm for engaging in their social entrepreneurship endeavours abroad, Beyond Profit decided to provide advice and support to students as they realise their entrepreneurship ambitions internationally. The first two projects to be hosted in the incubator are the African Innovation Prize and Rwanda Entrepreneurship Week.

The African Innovation Prize. In partnership with African Universities, the African Innovation Prize (AIP) aims to help establish and run a first-rate student business plan competition for African University students. AIP is rooted in the belief that grassroots entrepreneurship is a key driver in knowledge creation and economic development. The competition has been running for two years in Kigali, Rwanda and is looking to expand across Africa.

Rwanda Entrepreneurship Week. Rwanda Entrepreneurship Week is a week-long initiative that seeks to promote and support entrepreneurship in Rwanda. Initially it was conceived as a way of further catalysing entrepreneurship in Rwanda as a follow up to the African Innovation Prize. For Beyond Profit's members it acts as a great opportunity to get involved in a 'live' project over the summer; one which enables them to learn more about entrepreneurship whilst also adding-value from their own experience to developing world students.
