Social Enterprise in Local Community of Cambridge

ThinkTank Michaelmas_last update

Beyond Profit announces new series of Think Tank Stream to help the young and aspiring entrepreneurs to set up social business and make a difference in the society. Our theme for this term is ‘Social Enterprise in Cambridge’. This series is specifically designed to inspire Cambridge students to think about innovative and sustainable solution in creating social impact, and encourage young social entrepreneurs by providing guidance and support in setting-up a social enterprise.

The programme will be conducted in three sessions (on consecutive Monday evenings from 5-6:30pm, on Week 3-5, St. John’s College) where the participants can meet and interact with experts from the field and discuss on various topics regarding the social enterprise in Cambridge and young social start ups in the local community. This is a certified programme and you will gain a certificate from us if you attend all three sessions. The Think Tank Series is FREE of cost. Think Tank 2013-2014

The Think Tank stream invites students to generate discussions about social entrepreneurship and business solutions that are capable of generating social value and impact. You are given the opportunity to help and give advice to local businesses through the Think Tank program, after having acquired entrepreneurial knowledge from our fortnightly speaker events.

This year, in Michaelmas term, we will look at “Making a social enterprise more successful”, and in Lent term, “Social entrepreneurship in the developing world”. Our first speaker session will teach you how to implement a social enterprise from start up to consolidation phase, guiding you down the path to success.

Think Tank 2012-2013

Our Lent 2013 edition (27th February, 6th March, 13th March) was hugely successful. We looked at ‘the measurement of social value’- a hot topic following the recent legislation on Charitable Incorporated Organisations.

Nicola Dickins from Make it Happen Consultancy introduced us to previously established social value metrics and to their limitations and explained the urge and importance of creating strategies to evaluate social impact. This was followed by a lively discussion.

The collaboration between Think Tank and the Humanitarian Centre brought Anne Radl and Janice Pederson to our programme, who provided mentorship and guidance to the Think Tank fellows in this follow-up event.

The developed projects throughout the Term were presented to both the mentors and to our Judges, specially invited to provide our Fellows with final comments and recommendations: Dr Helen Haug (Deputy Director of the MBA Programme), Dr Shima Barakat (Research and Teaching Fellow at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning, Judge Business School) and Shelley Gregory-Jones (Development Director at The Sixteen).
